Bitcoin, The 2020 Crash, Gold And Hyperinflation

Axion - A Global Currency, Built To Serve The People

What is Axion? Per Axion's website:

AXION is the answer to our global financial markets that are on the brink of disaster.
The original solution to this impending collapse was Bitcoin, a decentralized peer-to-peer currency. However, since its inception, certain aspects of Bitcoin, such as lack of speed and high fees, have shifted Bitcoin into more of a store-of-value than a currency. Axion is the currency to address that.
With a high-interest time-locked savings account, Participants in the Axion Network are rewarded daily.

How is AXION distributed?

Anyone holding Hex2T (pre-sale) tokens will receive AXION at a rate of 1:1

Hex holders will also receive AXION 1:1, limited at 10M AXION tokens. Hex holders will also be auto-locked for a year, with 2% releasing weekly. More details can be found in the whitepaper. If Hex holders do not claim their AXION tokens, they will become available for purchase in the Daily Auction every week.

The Daily Auction

Putting Tokens and Value into your pocket.

To get Axion, it needs to be claimed by Hex & Hex2T holders, the longer they wait to claim, the more penalties they face. About 2% of their total per week. This 2% is added into a daily auction pool where people can bid using ETH on the Axion tokens within it. If you bid 10% of the ETH on that day, you get 10% of the pool rewards.
80% of the ETH paid in the auction is then used to hyperdrive both the Axion token and the stakers earnings. First, the ETH is used to purchase the tokens, boosting the token price, and then those tokens are distributed to stakers, creating a very strong positive feedback loop.

Axion Vision

Axion is on the path to becoming the ideal global currency.

For the first time in history, inflation is increasing the purchasing power of the people within the network. Axion has partnerships lined up to be integrated in online and in-person payment solutions, where you can pay for nearly everything in your every-day life using Axion. The merchants can accept FIAT (converted from Axion), or Axion itself. This is a global movement.

Axion: Built to Scale

500 Billion Initial Total Supply
1:1 Freeclaim ratio for Hex2T and Hex holders
80% of ETH Earned in auctions is used to buy back tokens
8% Annual inflation that goes Directly to stakers
100% of all purchased tokens Are distributed to stakers
No Auto-Stake For hex2t holders 100% autostake for hex holders

How to buy:

**Video Tutorials:**Metamask Install – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htyEeKNHX5ABuy/Sell Axion (HEX2T) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYZBOkHIM5k
How Do I Buy Axion (HEX2T)?
Step One: Purchase Ethereum from your exchange of choice (Coinbase, Binance, etc). You can also purchase Ethereum through Metamask and have it sent directly to your Metamask wallet (More details on this in Step Three). If buying through Coinbase, you’ll have the option to use a linked bank account or a debit card. Funds purchased via linked bank account will have a hold period while the bank transaction clears, funds purchased via debit card will be available for use instantly.
Step Two: Install the Metamask desktop browser extension and set up your Ethereum Wallet. You may also install the Metamask app on your Android smartphone and follow the same set up process in the linked video. (Apologies iOS users, the iOS Metamask app has restrictions that disable necessary features, you’ll have to use the desktop browser extension)
Step Three: Once you have your Metamask wallet set up and your seed words properly saved, it’s time to deposit Ethereum to your wallet.
– If you’ve purchased Ethereum on an exchange such as Coinbase or Binance, you’ll have to copy your wallet address from Metamask and withdraw the Ethereum from the exchange to your Metamask wallet address that you just copied. Be sure to check the wallet address multiple times before sending as transactions can not be reversed.
– If you’d like to purchase Ethereum directly through Metamask, you can do so using the Wyre fiat gateway that is integrated into Metamask.
Step Four: Now that you have Ethereum in your Metamask wallet, you can head over to our listing on the Uniswap Exchange to purchase Axion (HEX2T). We recommend using Fast GAS to speed up your transactions. You may also have to click on the gear icon in the top right on Uniswap to adjust your slippage limit when buying larger amounts.
– If using the Metamask app on Android, you’ll have to access the in-app browser through the menu (three bars top left of app) and paste the provided link.
– You will see a “From” input that should have ETH as the selected currency pointing to a “To (estimated)” output that should have HEX2T as the selected currency. The “From” input is the amount of Ethereum you will be spending and the “To (estimated)” output is the amount of HEX2T that you will receive for that amount of Ethereum.
– Once you enter the amount of Ethereum you’d like to spend, the button at the bottom of the page should say “Approve”. This “Approve” function allows the exchange to access Ethereum in your wallet, which is necessary to complete this transaction. You’ll click the “Approve” button and the exchange will send a transaction to your wallet, which you will have to confirm. Wait for that Approve transaction to clear and once it does the button should change from “Approve” to “Swap”.
– Now that you’ve given the exchange permission to use the Ethereum in your wallet, you can click the “Swap” button. This will send another transaction to your wallet that you’ll have to confirm. Once that transaction clears, you’ll have successfully purchased HEX2T with Ethereum!
Side Note: If you can’t see the HEX2T that you’ve purchased in your Metamask wallet’s Asset list, you’ll have to add the token to your Asset list. At the bottom of the Asset list you will see an “Add Token” button, click on that and you’ll see a “Search” and a “Custom Token” tab. Click on the “Custom Token” tab and paste the following address (0xed1199093b1abd07a368dd1c0cdc77d8517ba2a0) into the “Custom Token Address” field, the rest of the info should auto-fill. Then click the “Next” button in the bottom right, and it should display your HEX2T balance, click the “Add Tokens” button and you should now see your HEX2T in your Asset list.
**How Do I Sell Axion (HEX2T)?**To sell Axion (HEX2T), you essentially do the inverse of what you did to purchase it.Step One: Head over to Uniswap Exchange and click on ETH in the “From” input, a drop down list will appear and you’ll select HEX2T. In the “To (estimated)” output, click on “Select a Token” and select ETH. To clarify, if you want to sell, HEX2T should be on top, ETH should be on bottom.
Step Two: Enter the amount of HEX2T you’d like to sell in the “From” input, the button at the bottom of the page should say “Approve”. This “Approve” function allows the exchange to access HEX2T in your wallet, which is necessary to complete this transaction. You’ll click the “Approve” button and the exchange will send a transaction to your wallet, which you will have to confirm. Wait for that Approve transaction to clear and once it does the button should change from “Approve” to “Swap”.
– Now that you’ve given the exchange permission to use the HEX2T in your wallet, you can click the “Swap” button. This will send another transaction to your wallet that you’ll have to confirm. Once that transaction clears, you’ll have successfully sold HEX2T for Ethereum!

What A Day: Stitt Down And Shut Up by Sarah Lazarus & Crooked Media (07/15/20)

"If it’s Goya, it has to be good." - Ivanka Trump, violating federal ethics rules

Bean Here Before

With hospitals filling up and businesses shutting back down across wide swaths of the country, the Trump administration seems to have no pandemic strategy beyond sowing confusion and flogging beans.
Meanwhile, life comes at you fast.
The Trump administration condemned the country to a second surge of infections by refusing to coordinate a national response, leaving even the best state leaders to adopt piecemeal solutions by trial and error. Rather than try a different tack the second time around, Trump has committed to undermining widely trusted health experts and hiding the data that makes even those local decisions possible.

Look No Further Than The Crooked Media

Last week the Adopt a State program sent out our first Call to Action emails, and (without a hint of bias here) Florida crushed it. Team Florida has already raised upwards of $42k to support a Virtual Voter Registration Program—that will help reach 400,000 Floridians, which could cover Trump's margin of victory almost four times over.
We'll be sending each state team new calls to action every week via email, so keep checking your inbox and getting those actions done. And if you haven’t already signed up, head on over to https://votesaveamerica.com/adopt and join the thousands of volunteers looking to flip some swing states.

Under The Radar

The new head of the Postal Service has implemented major operational changes that could slow down mail delivery. Postmaster General and Trump donor Louis DeJoy instructed employees to leave mail behind at distribution centers as needed to avoid delaying mail carriers from completing their routes, a change from postal workers’ traditional mandate to not leave letters behind for the next day. DeJoy cited the agency’s need to cut costs, but the decision could chase away more customers and put the Postal Service in a deeper financial hole. It could also prove disastrous in November, when voters could lose access to mail-in ballots due to slow delivery. The Treasury Department has continued to hold a $10 billion emergency loan hostage until USPS gives in to Trump’s political agenda, and Congress has yet to provide additional funding.

What Else?

President Trump’s lawyers have renewed their efforts to block the release of his tax returns, and now plan to argue that the Manhattan district attorney’s subpoena was too broad and politically motivated. While the Supreme Court slapped down Trump’s first legal claim, it left the door open for him to keep the returns in limbo indefinitely with fake new arguments.
Trump’s also not above straight up ignoring Supreme Court decisions. The administration is still rejecting new DACA applicants, in violation of last month’s ruling.
Some of the most high-profile accounts on Twitter were compromised by bitcoin scammers. Hackers took control of the accounts of Barack Obama, Jeff Bezos, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Apple, and many more.
The largest U.S. banks have started stockpiling billions of dollars, reflecting their assumption that the recession won’t be easing anytime soon.
Jeff Sessions lost his Alabama Senate primary runoff to Tommy Tuberville, crushed under the presidential boots he never stopped licking Trump’s former physician Dr. Ronny Jackson won his GOP primary runoff for a Texas congressional seat, and Sara Gideon won the Democratic nomination to challenge Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME). In the grander scheme, there are now at least 11 GOP congressional nominees who support QAnon and Republican leaders are quietly backing them.
Gov. Mike Parson (R-MO) said Trump will be “getting involved” in the case of the McCloskeys, the St. Louis couple who pointed guns at Black Lives Matter protesters. Trump passionately defended them on Tuesday, and, in a separate interview, downplayed police violence against Black people and defended the Confederate flag.
Ghislaine Maxwell has a secret husband, according to prosecutors at her bail hearing. Maxwell pleaded not guilty and was denied release on bail.
ViacomCBS cut ties with Nick Cannon over antisemitic comments he made on a podcast.
Kanye West’s presidential campaign to help Donald Trump win re-election has come to end, according to his advisor, though he just made it onto the ballot in Oklahoma, so as with all Kanye news, who the heck knows.
Attn PBS millennials: A Wishbone movie is in development. Our generation has been saddled with two recessions, 9/11, and the worst public health crisis in 100 years, but by god, we still have a Jack Russell Terrier who loves to read.

Be Smarter

Fatal drug overdoses are likely surging during the pandemic. Drug deaths in the U.S. reached record numbers in 2019 after falling the year before, and the pandemic may be worsening the resurgence. A report in May found overdose rates have increased by an average of 20 percent across six states in 2020, and recent drug tests have found a substantial increase in illicit drug use, as well as a geographic spread of fentanyl. Overdoses were increasing before the pandemic, but it’s definitely not helping: Social isolation puts addicts at greater risk, treatment centers have been disrupted, and people who have overdosed are more likely to avoid emergency rooms out of fear of infection.

These are all the plans Vertextrades.com provides. Since trading takes place only 5 days a week, you will receive return on investment from Monday to Friday. I think the most suitable plan is the first one for all investors, because you only need $30 to start your investment journey. Let me take an example:
if you deposit $100, then you can earn 2% daily from Monday to Friday, and you can withdrawal or reinvest the money at any time as your willings. After 75 working days, you will earn $150 totally and initial deposit included. That is to say, your net profit will be $50.
Promotional Rewards
Referral Bonus
Existing clients can earn referral bonus by introducing new clients. Vertextrades.com pays 10% referral bonus if the person whom you have referred makes a deposit. Referral bonus is paid instantly. Even the accounts that are not having active deposit are eligible to get referral bonus. The referral bonus will be credited directly to the E-wallet upon the completion of the registration and investment process of the members present down the line.
Binary Matching Bonus
Binary matching bonus will be credited only to the accounts with active deposits. Binary matching income is calculated every 24 hours. Please refer the binary chart for different binary matching slabs.
In binary plan, the new clients are placed below the introducer (referrer) to the left or right side (left or right sub-tree). The tree of a Binary Network Plan will have two legs-left and right; but if a member recruits more than two, then the additional member will be added to the next member down-line. This concept allows the additional member to be shared with down-line member (power leg) and the one who recruited them. This is referred to as spillover. With respect to profit leg, there won’t be a spillover as the profit leg will be expanded with individually sponsored downlines. The binary plan is mostly quantity oriented and not based on the levels.
If you register through my personal link, then 10% of your deposit amount will be transferred back to your personal wallet. So don’t forget to submit your RCB request from top menu section on my website, I will transfer the money to you once admin processes my withdrawal request.

Ethereum’s Popularity Problem: Fees are Surging

By Andy Boyan
There’s a common gripe among Ethereum users these days —gas is too damn high. Transaction fees are surging as Tether continues to move to the second-largest blockchain network.
Fees paid on the Ethereum network have surpassed 500 ETH every day since April 15, according to Etherscan. That’s the longest stretch since three months at the height of the latest crypto bubble, between December 2017 and March 2018. What’s more, total daily fees paid have breached 2,000 ETH three times in May, a level that’s been crossed a few dozen times in all of Ethereum’s five-year history. The average for the past week was at 1,700 ETH.

Tether (USDT) is the main culprit. Users have paid almost $1.4M in the past 30 days for using the stablecoin, according ETH Gas Station. Much of that activity is coming from exchange-to-exchange transfers, which signals arbitrage trading. There are also several ponzi scams that make up the top seven spots including noted pyramid scam MMM, which continues its long program of ponzi scheming.

Financial Layer

While frustrating for end-users, higher fees are a sign the network is getting used as a financial settlement layer. Dexes and stablecoins account for about half of the top 25 projects.
Another positive: high fees are a sign Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake will be sustainable. Fees are higher than expected rewards for PoS validators, Vitalik Buterin said earlier this week. Building an attractive staking yield is critical to maintaining decentralized and robust network security, according to a March report by Delphi Digital.

License to Kill – Bond(s) explained

The below is the text from my latest blog post about bonds, if you want to see the original with pretty pictures, charts, graphs etc then click on this link.
Ok, the title is an obvious dad joke, but as it happens it still fits in with my naming convention for posts so happy days! On to more serious stuff.
The most common proposed asset allocation for people pursuing FIRE seems to involve having absolutely as much invested in equities (or to a lesser extent property) as possible, and reducing every other asset class to as little as possible. Which is certainly one way of doing things, and given the great performance of shares and property over the last 20 years or more there is an argument to be made for doing things this way.
It’s certainly not the only way of doing things though, and I will be trying to show why there is a case to be made for investing some money in other asset classes, in particular Fixed Income aka Bonds.
So what are bonds?
Bonds are a type of debt that is issued by governments, semi-government organisations, and corporations, so basically you’re lending them money. In Australia we also have what are called hybrid securities, but they’ve got some big enough differences that I’ll talk about them in a future post (probably).
Bonds are also one of those fun areas where there is an exception to every rule, so although what I’ve written below is broadly accurate there is always going to be some type of bond or a specific issue that breaks one of the rules.
So please don’t be an internet hero and “well ackshually” me about premium redemption/issue bonds, soft calls, hard calls, investor puts, floaters, PIK notes and all the rest of it because broadly speaking it isn’t going to make much difference for the purposes of explaining bonds. Basically play nice readers!
Talk numbers to me…
Bonds are all about math. As I’m sure regular readers of this blog can imagine this makes me very happy, and probably explains in part why I spent a large part of my career working in an area where understanding bonds was crucial, although to make things more interesting we added on a bunch of other stuff like equity options, credit derivatives, FX etc.
The main numbers to think about are the price you paid for the bond, the coupon on the bond, the yield on the bond, the time to maturity, and the maturity value of the bond. From those main numbers we also derive a bunch of other numbers I’ll talk about later.
Bonds are normally issued at a price of 100, with a fixed coupon (interest payment based on the maturity value of the bond) and a fixed maturity value at a known maturity date. So that’s 4 of the numbers covered already, happy days!
A lot of the time though you’re not going to be buying that bond when it is issued, you’ve buying it when it’s already trading in which case chances are pretty good you didn’t pay 100 for the bond. Buying it along the way doesn’t affect the coupon or the redemption amount at maturity or when it matures.
What it does affect though is the yield. There are a bunch of different yield measures but I’m going to go with yield to maturity, ie what yield (return) will you get if you hold the bond to maturity.
It’s not a perfect analogy, but one way to think about bonds is that they’re like a term deposit where the amount that you can buy it for moves around. If you buy a bond for $10,000 that is going to mature in a year and it has a 2% coupon and redeems for $10,200 (redemption price plus coupon payment), then your yield (2%) is the same as your coupon (2%).
But if interest rates have changed and so the price of the bond has changed and you buy that bond for $9,900 or $10,100, then your yield will be different from your coupon, either 3% or 1% respectively. Hopefully that makes sense? BTW I’ve rounded the numbers here to try and keep it nice and simple.
Most bonds pay interest on a semi annual basis (I used an annual payment in the example above to make things easier) so to figure out how much interest you get when it gets paid it’ll be the coupon divided by two.
Hopefully all of that makes sense, if not let me know in the comments.
Issuers of Bonds
As I said above the main issuers of bonds are governments, semi government organisations, and corporations.
Debt issued by governments is generally the safest type, because so long as they control the printing press then they can always print more money to pay you back. The Eurozone is a bit of an exception to this (understatement of the year) but in most of the other major sovereign bond markets like the US, Australian, the UK etc it’s true.
Emerging markets are a bit different because they often issue debt in USD, which means that if things go pear shaped then they can’t just print more money to pay off bondholders.
There can also be issues with getting your money back from sovereigns if they have too much debt, such as when they either don’t control the printing press (Greece) or the bond is issued in a different currency (Argentina) but for the most part if you lend money to a developed country in their own currency then you can pretty reliably count on getting your money back.
There are also bonds issued by semi government organisations like the World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development etc, these are slightly less safe for the most part but you’re still not taking on much risk of not getting your money back.
Debt issued by corporations is riskier, partly because businesses obviously can’t just print more money to pay you back, and because corporations can and do go bust. Sure it doesn’t seem likely that Telstra or Woolworths or the big banks are going to blow up any time soon, but there are plenty of other bond issuers out there with much more fragile finances.
As you would expect the more risk you are taking on the more return you want in order to be compensation for doing so. This is because unlike a term deposit the value of your capital isn’t protected. If you put $10,000 into a term deposit for a year with an interest rate of 2%, then you know that in a year’s time you will get back that $10,000 plus $200 in interest.
If for some reason the bank you invested that money through goes bust, the government will make you whole (up to the value of $250,000 per entity per approved deposit institution.
If you invest in a corporate bond and the company goes bust, well you’re probably not going to get all or maybe any of your money back. The good news is that you’re more likely to get money back than equity holders, but if the debts of the company are a lot more than the assets then you’re going to be in trouble.
There’s a clear framework for what happens if a company goes bust and who gets paid first and in how much etc, the short version of this is that equity holders are absolutely last in line but depending on what type of bonds you own you may not be a meaningful better position either.
And unlike a stock, when you own a bond you don’t own a piece of the issuer of the bond, you just own part of their devt. So if the company does great and starts making a fortune, you as a bondholder don’t get paid any more than what the terms of the bond state. Basically you can get a fair chunk of the downside and none of the upside beyond the terms of the bond. On the plus side this doesn’t happen particularly often, most of the time you’ll get what you were promised
Bond ratings
Now obviously some companies are more secure and stable than others. If you take a bond from the biggest company in the ASX200 which is CBA, then it’s more likely to fulfil the terms of the bond than whatever the 200th company is. That’s not to say the 200th company won’t, just that there is more risk. The actual degree of this risk is quantified in a couple of different ways.
First of all there are ratings agencies out there who will assign a rating from anywhere to super safe (AAA) to D (in default) with a bunch of graduations in between. Anything rated from AAA to BBB- is what is called Investment Grade (IG), everything below that is called High Yield (HY) or less politely Junk.
Just because a bond is IG doesn’t guarantee it will pay off, likewise something which is HY isn’t guaranteed or even likely to fail. For the most part though the different ratings given tend to play out that way in the real world, with far less defaults for bonds rated AAA vs bonds rated BB for example.
The big three ratings agencies are Standard & Poors (S&P), Moodys, and Fitch, and between them they’ll rate most of the bonds and/or issuers. They tend to be fairly backward looking in my opinion, and they were hugely and obviously wrong on rating mortgage backed securities back in the GFC. Still, they will generally give you a reasonable idea of the creditworthiness of the bond issuer.
Because bonds are also traded in the marketplace you can take the yield offered on a bond with a particular maturity, compare it to an equivalent government bond, and using some fun math (yeah baby!) back out a credit spread which that bond trades over treasuries (or swaps but I’m not going to get into that). The higher the spread, the higher the perceived risk of the bond, and vice versa of course.
Are bonds safe?
Well it kinda depends on what you mean by safe. If you mean are the bonds likely to deliver what the issuer of the bonds promised, then generally yes. As I said with government and semi government bonds you will almost certainly get all your coupons and the maturity value of the bonds delivered on time. Yeah, there are some exceptions to this but you’re unlikely to run into trouble with Australia, the US, the UK, the more economically sensible members of the Eurozone etc.
Similarly with corporates the vaast majority of the time you will get your money back on investment grade bonds, and it’s pretty rare to not get your money back on high yield bonds as well. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, but it doesn’t happen much.
If you mean am I going to get back what I put into the bond, well no they’re not necessarily safe, particularly if you sell before maturity. Remember when I said bonds are kinda like term deposits that can trade? Well when they trade those prices move around, and they can move around a lot!
Why do bond prices move?
There are a bunch of reasons why bond prices move around, the main ones are changes in the interest rate environment, changes in economic conditions, and changes specific to the issuer of the bond.
We’ll talk about interest rates first. Bond prices have an inverse relationship with bond yields, which is a fancy way of saying if interest rates (yields) go down then bond prices go up.
How much do they go up? Well that depends on the magnitude of the change in rates, and a bunch of factors involving the bond. Basically the longer till maturity on the bond, and the lower the coupon on the bond, the more sensitive it will be to changes in interest rates. This is measured using modified duration and convexity.
Modified duration takes into account the timing of the cashflows of the bond (so coupons and maturity) and gives you a number which is typically a little less than that number of years to maturity, the higher the coupon the more it decreases the modified duration. If you multiply that modified duration by the change in interest rates in percentage terms, it will tell you how much the bond price will move by (in theory at least).
So if you have a modified duration of say 7.117, then for every 1 percent move in interest rates the bond price will change by 7.117 points. So if your bond price was previously 100 and rates moved down by 1%, then your bond should now be worth 107.117. Happy days! Conversely if rates moved up, well your bond is now worth 92.883. Not so happy days.
I’ve used the [ASX bond calculator](http://%20https//www.asx.com.au/asx/research/bondCalculator.do) to give a couple of examples using the current Aussie 10 year bond. You can hopefully see below that by changing the yield on the bond from 1.5% to 1% the market price has gone from 116.87 to 121.83, roughly a 4.25% change in price for a 0.5% change in rates, so presumably the modified duration on the bond is about 8.5.
To make things slightly more complex, that relationship isn’t fixed due to something called convexity. Instead of being a linear relationship, it’s actually a changing one (a curve rather than a line). Basically the more bonds prices move away from where they were issued the more that relationship will change.
Then there are things like GDP numbers, employment numbers, consumer sentiment surveys, PMI surverys, and all sorts of other economic news which will potentially move bond yields around, generally pretty slightly but it really depends on how important that economic number is and how much of a change from expectations it is.
On top of that for corporations changes in their own situations will have an effect on what their credit rating/spread is which will affect prices as well. If a company goes from being loss making to suddenly making a profit, then that’s going to be good for their credit and the bond price is likely to go up. Bad news like a profit warning will potentially mean a higher credit spread and lower price for the bond.
There is also general investor appetite for risk, so if investors are happy to take on more risk in their asset allocation (risk on) then they will likely sell off lower risk assets like bonds and buy higher risk assets like equities and to a lesser extent property. If things change and they want to go risk off, then the reverse happens and money tends to come out of equities and into bonds.
What happens to bonds if the stock market crashes or we have another GFC?
A stock market crash is actually one of the more compelling reasons to invest in bonds. This is because when stock markets crash investors tend to put their money into asset classes where they feel a lot safer ie, bonds. The rationale is that getting your money back is now hugely important, and even more important is not losing all your money as you will in those horrible equities which you knew you should never have invested in but that horrible financial adviser talked you into.
People. Are. Not. Rational. People panic. People sell assets which are going down in value even though they know they should be holding on for the long term. This applies not just to retail investors, but also to professionals who should know better.
In the GFC I spent plenty of time talking to institutional investors with a long term time horizon (ie 5 or 10 years etc) who suddenly decided they had to get out because of bad one month performance. People will bail out if the proverbial is hitting the fan. I wrote a bit about my experiences with the GFC here, and believe me there are a lot of people who are not going to be as cool calm and collected as they think they will be.
It’s very very very very (extra very for emphasis) important to note here that at this point in time investors will not be thinking that all bonds are much the same. When they are looking for somewhere to put their money that they now have after panic selling out of equities, they will park it in the safest place they can find, ie government bonds (aka treasuries). This will cause the price of those bonds to rise because of supply and demand.
If they still want to take on some amount of risk then they might put some into investment grade bonds, again this will push the price up a bit. They will almost certainly not put money into high yield bonds, because those are risky and in a crisis will behave pretty similarly to equities, ie they will fall in value. If anything they will more than likely try to pull money out of HY bonds, pushing the price down.
This excellent post really shows this in the below graph which shows the average performance of different types of bonds for a 10% or greater fall in the stock market (all of this is for the US but the same principle applies to Australia).
It doesn’t work in every case, as shown below (same source), but in almost all cases of a big crash in equities, treasury and to a lesser extent IG bonds gave you a big positive return to help out. HY, not so much and in some cases actually gave you a worse performance than equities themselves.
Please believe me when I say it is a huge help psychologically to have some of your investments going up when the others are going down, which to me at least is a great reason to have some money invested in bonds.
You’ve convinced me, how much should I have in bonds?
Ok so I’m probably being slightly optimistic here given the number of posts I see on reddit about how VDHG would be so much better if Vanguard got rid of that terrible 10% that’s invested in bonds and put it all in equities instead.
It would be nice to think though that some people are now realising that come the next crash they too might not behave entirely rationally, and it sure would be nice to own some assets that are going to zig when the stock market zags, so to speak.
On the off chance that I have actually convinced people, well it really comes down to your particular risk profile. This is going to be hard to believe for some people, but in the US the default portfolio for most investors is 60% stocks and 40% bonds.
Looking at Oz , the default balanced investment option for most super funds over here are supposed to have something like a 70:30 split between growth assets (shares and property) and defensive assets (bonds and cash) although the reality is a long long way from that if you actually look into how they invest (that’s a discussion for another time though). So that maybe provides a useful starting point.
I know that the average FIRE portfolio that gets talked about particularly from younger bloggers (who have likely never experienced a sustained down market) is pretty much 100% equities and property, maybe even leveraged up. Which is fine if you can hold on through the downturns, but not everyone can do this because it is extremely difficult to do psychologically. I wish them all the best of luck, but I am pretty sure that at least some of them will decide that it’s all too much and sell whenever we have the next crash.
There are exceptions to the rule though. One of my favourite bloggers, and someone who I know thinks deeply about this sort of stuff, is the FI Explorer who has about 15% in bonds and 15% in defensive alternatives (gold and bitcoin) as per his latest portfolio update.
Whilst I don’t like Bitcoin myself, or gold for that matter, he writes a good explanation about why he holds both here. I still don’t like either asset myself, but I recognise that I am not infallible, I could well be wrong about this, and certainly historically they have worked well as hedges.
In any case the more important point here is that there is basically a 30% allocation to what would be regarded as defensive type assets. This is actually a bit over his actual target of 25% in defensive assets, but he probably sleeps just fine at night.
I’m a little more aggressive in only having about 21% of my assets (excluding PPoR) in cash and bonds, but it’s not a huge difference. Both of us have been invested through stock market crashes and hopefully have come to realise that we are not the hyper rational investors that economists believe we are, and therefore it’s best to have a bit invested in stuff that will go up or at least hold it’s value when everything else is crashing.
How do I buy bonds?
You can buy bonds individually, but you tend to need to have a fair amount of money to do so and you can run into a lot of problems with liquidity, big bid/ask spreads etc, it’s hard to build up a diversified portfolio etc.
I buy bonds the same way I buy stocks, ie via an ETF. Most of the major ETF providers have some variety of index ETFs tracking Treasury only or Treasury plus Investment Grade bonds, or you can buy HY stuff if you want. Personally I just use one ETF which has about 75% in treasuries and the rest in IG. There are also some actively managed bond funds out there, either as ETFs or managed funds.
For the reasons I outlined above about bonds being a psychological safe harbour I personally would (and do) only invest in bonds which are likely to up in a crisis, but different strokes for different folks applies as always.
Any more questions?
I’ve only really scratched the surface here of talking about bonds, but at the same time I feel like it’s an overwhelming amount of information. If you have more questions then as always I’m happy to answer them in the comments!

Just got my first full time job offer this weekend as a self taught developer!

Beyond excited and honestly looking at the offer email feels surreal! I've completely self taught myself, and it's probably the most dedicated I've been to anything. It's been a little over one year since my first commit to Github, and I can finally say all that time has paid off. Starting the first week of Jan, I am a full time front-end web developer.
I spent a little over the past month applying for jobs, eventually interviewing at two different places within the past two weeks. Imposter syndrome is no joke. I was so nervous to start applying and interviewing, but honestly I just had to do it and kid you not, I got an offer after my second interview for the salary I asked for.
A huge thank you to this sub! I quietly frequent this sub daily and have since I started web development.
Edit: A lot of people are asking how I self taught myself, and while that whole situation could take up a novel, here's the general idea of what I did.
I spent the first 3-4 months really learning CSS. I learned Flexbox, some CSS Grid, responsive design, and SASS. I picked up Bootstrap as well because that's what I saw everyone buzzing about. HTML literally took like two weeks to get the gist of it, so the deeper into CSS I got, the more I spent with HTML, so it kinda worked out like that. This entire time I was just taking websites designs off of Dribbble and Pinterest and building them as non functioning skeletons. Doing that also helped quite a bit with my sense for web design.
After I really learned CSS, I hoped into Javascript and spent the remainder of my time (8-9 months) working with it. I focused on the basics starting out, working with the DOM, using JQuery etc. Moved on to React, Node, and learning ES6. This is when my JS knowledge really took off. Currently, I'm entirely comfortable working with arrays and objects, ES6 obj and array prototypes, asynchronous JS, can explain to you what closures are, can work with JSON, fetch data from API's, know difference between let and const, scope, etc. I can work with Node and most of projects use it. It really really helps to be comfortable with JS. It makes all the other stuff like CSS and HTML seem like a walk in the park in comparison. So build projects with it. If all you ever use it for is to add onClick handlers or classes to DOM elements, then you won't get too advanced with it. KNOWING JAVASCRIPT AS A WEB DEV IS SO DAMN IMPORTANT. My goal is to become a full-stack javascript dev, so I care about it and I'm biased. But I still think it's the most important programming language a web dev should without a doubt be comfortable with.
Also learn Git. Seriously use it for any project your building. Don't just put it off. Use it and learn it from the command line before you download a GUI for it.
I started with a Udemy course, think it was actually the Colt Steele course. I've also followed a couple Wed Bos courses. But I hate following online lessons like that, so I just sorta got the gist of what I should learn and then just started making things. Personally I learn by doing so it's whatever works best for you. Learning by immersion is my tactic! I only ever followed a tutorial to learn something specific for a personal project. Don't add these tutorial projects to your portfolio! You should only use tutorial projects to learn. The biggest key to my success was learning by building stuff! I've got tons of projects on my computer, some done and some half complete. Some look like spaghetti and others I'm proud of. I've freelanced and built a couple Wordpress websites for money in this time. I've also written a couple tutorial articles on Medium as well. If you can write a tutorial about something in terms that a person with little prior knowledge can grasp, you're on the right track.
My portfolio is built with React, Gatsby and GraphQL. It has a blog system set up. I also have an almost ready to deploy full-stack project built with the MERN stack. It's a fleet management application that allows a user to add customers, their customer's fleet vehicles, notes on those vehicles and service intervals on each vehicle for continued notifications. This app was built with my parents company in mind. I also have quite a few React apps in my GitHub. I play golf competitively so I built a golf stat tracking application, I also built a 30-day Bitcoin price tracker and price chart because I've been into crypto for a few years. The gist of this is that I build things that suit my interests. And as mentioned, I've freelanced a couple brochure style Wordpress websites as well as doing random things on Upwork.
When they tell you that learning comes from doing, it is no lie. If you branch out from tutorial projects and make up something on your own, the amount of knowledge you obtain from that is worth way more than any tutorial. If you don't have a full tutorial to hold your hand, you are forced to Google and read. That's the key I think.
I spent on average 3-4 hours almost every weekday working on Web Dev. Some weekends I would work a few hours each day as well, but I'm not the type of person to kill myself with work, so I made sure to take time away from development to focus on my hobbies. Most of my time was spent reading or watching tutorials to learn how to do something specific that would move along a personal project, reading, reading, writing some code, breaking stuff, reading.
Lastly, it's imperative you adopt a mindset that allows for you to realize that no matter what, you will encounter problems. Problems with code, problems with understanding a concept, etc. If you keep at it, overtime you'll realize that you can overcome most any problem thrown your way with persistence and dedication. You can't easily give up. If you give up out of frustration when you encounter a problem or something you can't do yet, then you won't be cut out for this. I've spent literal weeks being stuck on issues, but I've always pushed on and got it sorted. Every time that I figured something out, it added a percentage of confidence to myself. Confidence that assures me that no matter what, I will be able to figure it out. And that's better than acting like you know everything. You won't know everything, it's almost a guarantee. But having confidence in your problem solving skills makes this less scary.

Rebalancing Crypto Portfolio: What is BAT, Brave, PAY & TenX?

I just sold off my entire PAY holdings to buy BAT tokens. My average cost for PAY tokens was around $0.90 and I bought 502 of them (current price is around $0.30). I had around 200 initially but added on another 300 late last year in Dec 2018. The reason is that the company is issuing a 1-to-1 new TenX token for every PAY token you hold. TenX token is a reward token that would be issued out in Q2 2019 and rewards (in the form of PAY) are expected to come in Q3 2019. The snapshot has already happened, meaning that I would receive 502 TenX tokens in a few months time, regardless of whether I sold my PAY tokens or not. You can read more about TenX token from their official blog post.
PAY will be the reward we receive starting from Q3 2019 and the payout will be made every quarterly depending on the company’s financial performance. My cost price for getting 502 PAY is around $458, which means I would need to get around $23 annually for a yield on cost of 5%. I will write a new post about TenX when I receive the new tokens and when the first rewards payout is distributed. Everything will happen in 2019, so stay tuned.
Who is TenX?
TenX is actually a crypto card company and their goal is simply to allow cryptocurrencies to be spent anywhere in the world. Here is actually a video of my first transaction buying Mac in bitcoin a few months back.
The experience was pretty cool, liberating and surreal I would say. You got to try it for yourself. For the first time in history, products and services can be bought with a currency that is not controlled by ANYONE or any intermediary. There won’t be bank bailouts, political issues, government failures, quantitative easing and that sort of stuff. The note in your wallet is basically an IOU, something the bank owes you, but the BTC in your wallet is solely yours and nobody can take it away from you, as long as you keep your private key safe.
We don’t really face all these problems in a first-world developed country, but the people who really need this are those from countries such as Venezuela. The country faces corruption and their notes are denominated in millions due to hyper-inflation. These worthless paper money are being dumped everywhere on the streets. I would not go too in-depth about this and you can read more about the inflationary impact of money from my previous post.
If you are interested, you can order a card from Tenx as the cards are available in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and recently Thailand. They are rolling out the cards in other regions progressively and their banking license in Europe is still in the process of happening. The orders for their Tenx card is insane. They are growing at around 10-15% every week I think.
Reason for Selling PAY Tokens
I sold off my PAY tokens because it was originally a reward token that gives out rewards from the pool of transaction fees when people spend using TenX card to all PAY token holders. However, they run into regulatory issues with this as “Securities Token” is an extremely sensitive topic in the regulatory arena. Hence, the TenX token was created with an added feature known as the ERC-1462. The rationale behind this is simply for compliance reasons; to comply with securities regulations and legal enforceability.
Utility of PAY Tokens
Now that TenX token has replaced the original utility of PAY as a “reward token”, you might ask what’s the function of PAY tokens now. This is a good question and the answer is: “nobody knows yet”. The team behind TenX is currently working on the utility of PAY tokens and no conclusive information is available at the moment. However, some of the possible ideas that were suggested include things like rebate fees, lower transaction fees when spending crypto or other specific uses for TenX services.
Since TenX token has already replaced PAY token as the reward paying coin, then it does not make sense for me to keep PAY tokens anymore. I am more interested in holding and buying the goose rather than keeping the eggs. Unless there is a strong utility function or incentive for me to hold the eggs, I really don’t see the rationale to hold my PAY tokens in the short-term. My investment philosophy in crypto is towards staking and rewards tokens that distribute some form of dividends one way or another. I believe the pool of money would work harder for me if I allocate it somewhere else.
What is Basic Attention Token (BAT) Token?
And where did I put it? I reallocated all my PAY tokens towards BAT tokens. So what is BAT? It’s not some kind of scammy, bs project. I don’t invest for the sake of quick random gains. I am actually grateful for the crypto winter as a “massive cleansing” is needed to drive out all the frauds and shitty projects that fail to make the cut. Those who survived will rebound even more resiliently and I am really looking forward to seeing the progress and adoption coming in. As the saying goes, “I’d rather lose money in crypto and end up being wrong than potentially miss the greatest investment opportunity of our generation.”
In my opinion, there are 2 things that would massively change in the next 5-10 years. One is China and the second is Blockchain. The latter has already become the most commonly discussed topics in World Economic Forums and these large giant monopolies are getting into the game. They have to because technological disruption is inevitable. You see Facebook, Tencent, Samsung, Microsoft, PwC, Deloitte, IBM, Walmart, Maersk, JP Morgan, Fidelity, Bakkt and the list goes on. They are all coming in. It’s only a matter of time. To find out more about institution money in crypto or how I got started, you can read about it in detail from my previous post.
Anyway, let’s cut the chase short.
So what’s BAT? To understand BAT, we must first understand the Brave Browser. BAT and Brave Browser work hand-in-hand and they are both founded by Brendan Eich, the person who created Javascript and Mozilla Firefox. I shall let the father of Javascript do the introduction rather than me writing all about it.
Problems of the Current Advertising Model
Problem #1: Our browsers are filled with countless trackers and Ads that are annoying and invasive. I am sure you have experienced the case where you researched something, and the ads related to what you are reading on started popping up everywhere the next moment. These are all run by trackers and the internet is attempting to build a digital profile about you so that they can sell you stuff.
Problem #2: Publishers are earning pennies. Well-known famous bloggers in Singapore can vouch to this. They don’t earn much from ad revenues on their sites. The problem with our current digital advertising industry is it is run by monopoly companies such as Google Ad sense and Facebook Ads. They take a huge cut of revenue (73%) from the publishers because they can. They have earned monopoly status.
Problem #3: There is a huge load of middlemen and intermediaries between the marketer and publisher. For a single ad unit to pass through to the publisher, it has to go through all these data aggregators, data management platform, data suppliers, analytics, verification and the list goes on. Money is being leaked out to all these central intermediaries and it adds up to a high transaction cost to brand ad campaigns.
Problem #4: Users often use ad blockers and over 600 million users and phones run ad-blocking to block off unwanted annoying ads. The result of this affects advertisers and publishers as their “ads” are not being directed towards users. Targetting is poor and users are ignoring ads.
Problem #5: The whole advertising ecosystem is plagued with frauds, malware, ransom-ware and some marketers are being fooled by bogus websites. There are tons of fraud bots going around the internet and our browser is vulnerable to all these hacks & viruses.
How can Brave & BAT solve the problems?
I will not go too in-depth with the elaborations as this post is meant to document the recent transaction I made on my crypto portfolio. Basically, Brave is a browser that is designed to block off ALL trackers and Ads. This result in a browser that is faster, more secure and more private. The BAT token is a utility token for 3 groups of people: Users, Publishers and Advertisers. Users are being paid with BAT tokens to view ads if they choose to opt-in for the option to view ads. Advertisers are required to purchase BAT tokens to advertise. Publishers are being paid based on the attention time users spent on the sites. Users can choose to make micro-contributions to tip their favourite content creators and websites. Publishers can offer premium content to users and payments can be in the form of BAT tokens. To read more about how the Brave Browser and BAT tokens work, you can read up about it over here.
How does it look like?
Here is an example of using the Brave browser. I have been using Brave for about 1 month and have since replaced Brave as the default browser over Google Chrome. You can see the number of Ads and trackers that are being blocked. Youtube and FB have a ton of all these trackers and ads. It’s really surprising to see the statistics. Not only that, the browser load time is faster, more secure and the best part? You are being PAID to view Ads. I don’t see any reasons not to like Brave. They actually did a test to compare between Chrome, Brave and Firefox. The results are 2x faster in desktop and 2-8x faster on mobile.
It would look something like this, where you can opt-in to receive BAT rewards for viewing Ads. If you don’t want these annoying Ads, you can disable the Brave Rewards function and no ads would pop up on your screen. Unfortunately, Ads are currently not available in Singapore yet, but they will be rolling out to the whole world by end of 2019. Countries such as the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany are already using it now. This feature was just released 3 weeks ago on 25 April 2019. People from these countries have already received their first payout of BAT tokens just from viewing ads on their browsers as of 8 May 2019. I would write a new post on this when ads are available in Singapore. Can’t wait for it.
Are you a Content Creator, Blogger, Youtuber, Website Owner?
If you fit into any of the above categories. Good news for you! Content creators form an integral part of the entire ecosystem and there is a huge opportunity for you to earn BAT tokens in the future. You are being paid for the content that you publish on the web. The more people visit your sites, the more time they spent on your sites, the more revenue you earn from their attention. Essentially, you are being paid by your audience based on the attention they spent on your site rather than relying on menial ad revenues. I would highly recommend that you sign up as a verified publisher on their web page. I have already verified my website. \This is not an affiliate link and I don’t earn any commissions*. It’s really up to you whether you want to be a verified publisher and earn BAT tokens in the future.
Why BAT Tokens?
The reason why I replaced PAY with BAT into my portfolio is because of the following charts which I am about to show you now.
The estimated download for Brave browser on Android is 25 million and an estimated 2 million downloads are being hit every month. The growth and adoption of Brave browser are turning parabolic as you can see from the charts above.
What Drives the Value of BAT Tokens?
Why is that so? The entire value of Brave and BAT comes from the network effect. It’s just like Grab, Uber or Airbnb. The more people use it, the more valuable the company will be. It starts with getting publishers onboard. After which, YouTubers, bloggers and publishers would spread the word out to their thousands and millions of subscribers and followers because they can earn 5 BAT tokens for every active download. There is an incentive for users to use Brave browser because it’s ad-free, faster, more secure and they are being PAID to view ads. This positive loop cycle compounds over time and it would eventually lead to an exponential growth of adoption in a short span of time. Do note that we are just talking about countries like the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany, when ads are available in other regions, especially when it comes to Asia, this thing will explode.
So why does having more people using Brave browser increase the value of BAT tokens? Well, this is because as mentioned earlier, advertisers have to use BAT tokens to advertise. If I told you that there are 500 million users on Brave and your ads are targeted to users based on their profile match and they are willing to view your ads voluntarily because they are being paid to do so, would you be interested in it? Brendan Eich has confirmed that there are 1,300 advertisers on Brave ads which are on the waiting list right now. When the floodgate opens, it would be interesting to see how the market reacts to it.
Dethroning Google’s Ad Business?
If you are vested on Alphabet or Google, this is something you should watch out real close. Their advertising revenue takes up a huge chunk of the group’s total revenue and its recent Q1 2019 earnings have declined due to lower contribution from ads. The switching cost between browsers is practically zero. If a growing number of users, publishers and advertisers are migrating from Google Chrome to Brave Browser, which is already happening now, Google’s advertising business would inevitably take a hit and this is perhaps the essence of what blockchain is all about. To decentralise monopolistic power and transfer them to individual users.
Potential Risks and Competition
The biggest risk just as in any other crypto companies is always regulations. Regulation is always a pain in the ass, for the right reasons. But an overly-regulated country can stifle innovation and development of new technologies. When crypto first took off, regulators couldn’t be bothered as it does not pose a systematic risk to their financial systems. But the technology has grown so fast that it is too big to ignore. Hence, regulators have to play catch up in understanding the benefits and risks of the technology. Tax is another big issue. Because of this time lag between the early adopters and regulators, the whole area is still developing and it’s pretty much in the grey area. It reminds me of the quote by Mahatma Gandhi.
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Facebook is rumoured to be launching their own FB coin soon and they have recently removed their ban on cryptocurrency ads. There might be competition from the monopolies if they ever decided to go into crypto. But the good thing is that Brave has already gotten the first-mover advantage.
Using Kyber Swap to swap PAY to BAT
For the above reasons and logical reasoning, I have concluded to myself that PAY has no clear direction on the utility of its tokens (at the moment) and it does not make sense for me to hold them. Furthermore, I am more interested in the TenX tokens (goose) rather than the PAY tokens (eggs). BAT, on the other hand, is showing promising potentials and I can see how value is being derived in the long-term. As such, I have decided to swap ALL my PAY tokens into BAT tokens.
In the past, whenever we want to exchange one altcoin for another, the process would be to transfer your alts into an exchange, sell it for BTC, use that BTC to buy the other alt and transfer them back to your wallet. This whole process incurs gas fees, withdrawal fees, exchange rate fluctuations and the transactions can take hours to be verified if the network is congested. It is slow, inefficient and costly.
Fortunately, Kyber Network has introduced an innovative application tool known as the Kyber Swap. All you have to do is to connect your Metamask and swap your tokens instantly in a decentralized manner. Decentralized meaning that you are exchanging your tokens with the other party directly without going through a middleman such as an exchange. The liquidity providers are usually the market makers, token holders and token projects. The best part? Whenever you are doing a token-to-token swap, Kyber network will process the BEST conversion rate from all the reserves so that the most competitive rate is being carried out.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I can’t guarantee that I made the right choice. After all, I am selling PAY when it’s at its all-time low and buying BAT when it’s near its all-time high. My decision is based on the logical reasoning that I have made. Nevertheless, both TenX and BAT/Brave are equally solid projects which are growing at a rapid pace. I am waiting for TenX to release their TenX tokens by Q2 2019 and ads to be available in Singapore. When TenX tokens are issued out, PAY would probably spike up and all the short-term traders would get in. There is an opportunity to do an arbitrage here, but I wouldn’t take that risk.
I actually received my first payout in BAT when some random stranger decided to tip me. If you are interested in trying out the new Brave browser, here is the download link for it. Do give it a shot, play around with it and if you like it, remember to set the browser as your default.
The loading page is much FASTER and your browser will have ZERO ads and trackers. Furthermore, when ads are available in Singapore, you will be getting PAID to view ads in the future. The payout will be made to you on the 8th of May every month. \There is a referral fee of 5 BAT tokens for every active download (using the browser for at least 30 days)* If you are a blogger or you own a website, do consider this and I would really recommend you to verify your website. It is a potential alternative source of income for yourself. Click here to find out more if you are a content creator.
This is really the next generation of internet browser and it really makes us rethink the way users, advertisers and publishers interact in the digital advertising industry. The current rate of growth is exponential and I do see this taking off in the long-term, so sit tight! Revolution is coming. Keep a lookout for the next post when TenX tokens are distributed and when ads are available in Singapore.

Top 10 Ways to Earn Bitcoin in 2020

Top 10 Ways to Earn Bitcoin in 2020

https://preview.redd.it/14i4twybxby31.png?width=476&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba30918de799fb2614f4be1284a37d9708c5bbb3
Back in 2018, the most popular way to earn bitcoin seemed to be through Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). Over $6 billion was raised in Q1 2018 for crypto projects — many with just a white paper and a website. Business was good for founders and investors until the end of 2018 when scammers were the only ones laughing. Most investors lost money, and capital investments into ICO dropped 97%. Companies like TruStory even launched whose sole mission was to stop ICO scams from happening. By Q1 2019, less than $900 million was raised through ICOs —with regulation being the coup de gras.
https://preview.redd.it/jzn4nnegxby31.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c1349ad3ce82ad2b592a38c059709b5c4f00b65
So where has all the momentum shifted? The second wave of crypto projects will undoubtedly reward profits over potential. This article examines the top ways you can earn bitcoin in 2020 — from faucets and bitcoin mining to crypto savings accounts. The biggest winners of 2020 will likely fall into one of the following 10 categories. The strategy that is right for you will depend on your skills, network, access to capital, location, risk tolerance and investment timeline.

#1 - Holding
https://preview.redd.it/2rvi2izqxby31.png?width=475&format=png&auto=webp&s=5edf45a5cf880916a1cbf3dd3c889b05e27a52be
Arguably the best way to make money on Bitcoin is to buy it and hold it for many years. Smart investors rely on a strategy called Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA) to reduce market volatility. This works by investing a fixed amount on a regular schedule, ie $100 once a week for 10 weeks, which helps offset the crypto market volatility. The hard part is being patient with the investment and resisting the urge to daytrade or sell too quickly.

#2 - Lending
https://preview.redd.it/8ejpg84wxby31.png?width=472&format=png&auto=webp&s=984fbb7bb13e6064a8ae1d130d77f3f9fd9c716b
A number of fintech companies like BlockFi and BitBond now offer the ability to earn interest on your crypto holdings. Interest rates range start around 8% and can go as high as 20% for trusted lenders. The interest clients earn typically compounds monthly, although these returns mimic that of the S&P 500 so this is considered a low risk/reward option.

#3 - Day Trading
https://preview.redd.it/i1mqwm80yby31.png?width=471&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9185daf5e28b8160f8b36848b26e34e1b7b8417
A common way to earn Bitcoin trading is through trading cryptocurrencies on exchanges using 1X to as high as 100X leverage. Traders can also bet on the index of any crypto on sites like eToro or Robinhood. Daytraders will trade based on charts and trends, and try to grow their portfolio.
https://preview.redd.it/hxpg8nq7yby31.png?width=469&format=png&auto=webp&s=8441aee2cd8b258ec580faee5820510401372cc9
Another much safer form of arbitrage is dropshipping. You can source products on Amazon or from sites like Oberlo who will help you find the right products to buy. You can build an e-commerce store using Shopify or just sell on eBay. If you have a store and supply chain already, it's easy to start accepting Bitcoin using a payment gateway like CoinPayments or BitPay.
Other peer-to-peer exchanges like Paxful, Purse and Redeeem allow you to trade gift cards and other digital and physical goods for bitcoin.

#4 - Gambling
https://preview.redd.it/fghrvc3cyby31.png?width=473&format=png&auto=webp&s=7ebcc8d3a22c7e07ba7fc1c455a8b22b1f2b88b5
Gambling with Bitcoin is highly addictive, risky, largely unregulated, and offers the biggest and fastest financial volatility. Some popular crypto gambling sites include CloudBet, BetOnline, FortuneJack, Bovada, BetUS and hundreds of others. For more rankings, click here.

#5 - Mining
https://preview.redd.it/h9q7uphpyby31.png?width=471&format=png&auto=webp&s=64c18aeb8fc4bee85f9e1b8275385223f017c825
Despite the fact that over 80% of Bitcoin has already been mined, bitcoin mining is still a $4 billion annual industry. Since mining was intentionally developed to require advanced hardware, it's an expensive process that requires large mining facilities to be profitable. For this reason, most large-scale mining operations are located in China where electricity is cheap.
To be successful, individual miners are forced to join collective mining pools like MinerGate or simply mine as a fun hobby with Coinmine or Homeyminer and not worry about the ROI. To learn more, click here.

#6 - Faucets
https://preview.redd.it/uejcd0ztyby31.png?width=478&format=png&auto=webp&s=de76e9b769582b83af46e78d97616c19945d0474
A faucet is just a website that gives free coins to every visitor for staying on the site or engaging with content. Some examples are Cointiply, FreeBitcoin, SatoshiQuiz and others. Keep in mind, a satoshi represents roughly 0.00000001 bitcoin, so 100 satoshi is about 1 penny. It would take 100 correct trivia answers on SatoshiQuiz to make $1 USD. It's far more profitable to own a Bitcoin faucet and make money on advertisements.

#7 - Services
https://preview.redd.it/2mizr67e0cy31.png?width=483&format=png&auto=webp&s=c698ba3fd2ee210837155a240a65c3002ae049da
There are dozens of job boards online where you can earn bitcoin for a variety of independent contractor services. Many clients on Upwork, Freelancer and other non-crypto platforms will gladly 15% discounts or more if they can pay their freelancers in bitcoin and avoid the costs of the marketplace. Other more dedicated sites are listed below.
Jobs4Bitcoin — Reddit job board for bitcoin tasks
AngelList — Job board for crypto companies and projects
Earn.com — Earn bitcoin while learning about crypto
CryptoGrind — Escrow for bitcoin freelancers
CryptoJobs — Job board for bitcoin freelancers
Coinality — Job board for crypto freelancers
Bitfortip — Earn bitcoin for helping people Indeed — Job board for crypto companies BitWage — HR services for paying in crypto XBTFreelancer — Freelancers get paid in bitcoin

#8 - Exchanges
https://preview.redd.it/v5a0u4iy0cy31.png?width=464&format=png&auto=webp&s=543a50490c066b904fe351cec925d8adcf1a6c22
The simplest and lowest-cost exchange is a Bitcoin ATM. As of January 2019, there were 4,213 Bitcoin or cryptocurrency ATMs worldwide. With many countries like Venezuela, Argentina and Nigeria experiencing hyperinflation, the world's 2.3 billion unbanked people will continue to demand bitcoin and stablecoins as hedges against inflation. The estimated startup costs for a Bitcoin ATM is about $25,000 per location, according to CoinATMRadar.
https://preview.redd.it/xoj4c5c31cy31.png?width=468&format=png&auto=webp&s=bed32024272d9c6e6e8fcdc0e7c53254e91c02e6
Building a crypto exchange or peer-to-peer trading platform will be a more expensive way to earn bitcoin as an exchange. This requires building a website, hosting wallets on the blockchain, building security protocols, creating KYC/AML policies, accepting crypto payments, building two sides of a marketplace, and a little marketing, branding and legal work. Some examples of successful P2P trading platforms are Paxful, Purse and Redeeem.
The fiat to crypto exchanges like Gemini, Coinbase and Kraken usually require venture funding, large engineering teams and banking partnerships for proper custody of the funds. Fiat exchanges also have to register as a Money Services Business (MSB). For a full list of fiat exchanges, click here.

#9 - Affiliate Rewards
https://preview.redd.it/peewibjm1cy31.png?width=475&format=png&auto=webp&s=18f067006e2edfdbae198e14d71ede66bb805dae
Affiliate programs in crypto are endless, and they can come in many different shapes and sizes. Products like Lolli and Pei will reward you with bitcoin cashback everywhere you shop. Exchanges like Changelly will give you a percentage of their fee revenue for referring clients. Wallets like Abra will give you $25 for each signup. The optimal strategy is picking a familiar product that you know and love. For a list of affiliate programs, click here.

#10 - Content
https://preview.redd.it/yh7q5vwv1cy31.png?width=469&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed03d857d94d8c11de63b5cbc21c5e311836fcaa
Bitcoin is King. Content is King. So Bitcoin Content must be God. The ability to research, write and publish high-quality content on Bitcoin, blockchain and cryptocurrencies will be a highly coveted asset in 2020. It's free to start a Medium blog, video blog or podcast and share your ideas to passionate audiences on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit or Quora. Try to build an audience first then turn on AdSense or activate other partnerships to start collecting passive revenue for your content.
